本教材内容共分为六个单元，分别是：金属加工基础、机械制造技术、机械设计、电类知识、数控技术、现代制造技术。力求反映现代制造技术的多方面发展，以适应机电结合发展的趋势，并将公共英语中的阅读方法贯穿其中，有针对性地加以训练，以提高学生科技英语的阅读能力。
