思想给人以创造力，思想可以使许多古老的材料焕发出新的生命。我对中国古代的文学理论和艺术理论，往往从哲学的角度来看，于是便有很多新的思路出来。对于中国的传统思想方法和哲学流派，如儒家、道家、玄学、理学和心学等，我都下过不少的工夫，感觉是收益甚大。我这些年来研究中国诗学，往往从哲学角度进行观照，于是便有了一些不同以往的想法出来。这本《自选集》将所选文章大致分为了三类，其一便是“哲学与诗学的融通”。也可以视为我的学术特点所在。
