自2002年7月4日全线开工建设的西气东输工程，是中国迄今为止完成的距离最长、管径最大、压力最高、输气量最大、技术含量最高的输气管道工程。铺设这样一条输气管道的意义，在于能够让东部和西部更加紧密地成为一体，优势互补，同时也可以让资源和人类、 让经济和环境的运行进入一个可持续发展的里程。
