When recovered alcoholic and struggling, unlicensed PI Mick 'Brew'Axbrewder gets into the unfortunate position of having to take out a top hitman, he barely escapes with his life. His partner and sometime lover,Ginny Fistoulari, decides to get them both out of the city - but running doesn't solve their problems.

Brew must rebuild his life, and the only way seems to be to trust a man he hates: Marshal Viviter, an old college friend of Ginny's, and a phenomenally successful private investigator.

Viviter appears to have everything - and be everything - that Brew could ever hope for, but there are strings attached to his help strings which could get Brew killed . . .
