In a life that was cut tragically short at the age of just 36, Marilyn Monroe managed to establish herself as a cinematic legend and one of the most celebrated icons of the twentieth century. Born on the wrong side of the tracks, an illegitimate and unwanted child, she'spent much of the early part of her life in foster homes and became a teenage bride rather than return to the orphanage. However, in 1946 Norma Jeane Mortenson changed her name to Marilyn Monroe and through hard work and determination she eventually rose to become one of the greatest stars in the Hollywood firmament.
It seems that all Marilyn Monroe really wanted was to be loved and respected, and whilst at times she may have struggled to achieve those aims during her lifetime, today, nearly half a century after her death, she is almost universally adored, not just for her striking beauty, but for her intellect and artistry.
