简　　介  

　　威廉·登顿是灯塔的守护人，他和船长安德鲁以及当地年轻人菲利普三人守卫着这个荒凉的小岛，菲利普的宠物猴马里奥很有灵气。
　　一日，威廉三人发现一艘挂着“求救”标志的船停在了水边。安德鲁和菲利普上船查看究竟，从望远镜里，威廉却吃惊地发现，他们二人被船上的人残忍杀害了。这些船员竟是一些海盗，他们想占领灯塔所在的小岛，诱使其他船只靠岸，然后疯狂劫掠财物。
　　海盗头目乔纳森自称新“船长”，用喇叭喊话让威廉出来合作。但威廉找到了一处马里奥指点他的山洞，在这个只有灯塔的遍布山石的小岛上，他算是有了栖身之所。
　　但是不久巡山的海盗就发现了威廉的踪迹，他们利用马里奥把威廉引诱到灯塔边的屋子里，威廉被抓住吊了起来，而小马里奥又被残忍地杀死。威廉悲痛万分，乔纳森把他放了，玩起猫抓老鼠的游戏，威廉跳海保住了性命。
　　海盗们的伎俩诱使一艘从美国开往英格兰的船上了当，这艘船触礁后，船上的人有的被淹死，有的爬到岸边又被海盗杀害，威廉看准时机，救下了一个船上的机械师吉斯普，但船上的一个酷似威廉年轻时代恋人的女子艾丽贝拉却被海盗掳去。
　　海盗头子乔纳森不服躲藏起来的威廉，他令这个美貌的艾丽贝拉吸引威廉，威廉几乎上当，在丢掉了吉斯普之后，他终于和乔纳森展开了正面交锋。最后，大火点燃了灯塔，乔纳森被烧死，威廉则看到了前来救援的船只。

　　1971年出品的探险片。主演威廉的演员是好莱坞的老牌影星柯克·道格拉斯，他出身于移民美国的犹太家庭，身手矫健，曾是著名的职业摔跤手。代表作是著名的影片《斯巴达克斯》。他曾三次获得奥斯卡提名，但没有得到过小金人。儿子迈克尔·道格拉斯以及儿媳凯瑟琳·泽塔-琼斯都是著名的电影明星。
