　　单身父亲泰瑞·伯纳德（约什·卢卡斯 Josh Lucas 饰）独自抚养可爱的女儿安吉拉（Beatrice Miller 饰），他爱恋着女儿的主治医师伊丽莎白（琳娜·海蒂 Lena Headey 饰），一切似乎朝着美好的方向发展，但是接连不断的幻影让他充满焦虑。此前，泰瑞曾做过心脏移植手术，在此之后幻影便接连侵袭着他。他偶然得知心脏捐助者名叫让?维艾亚德，是一个55岁因头部重伤死亡的老者。并通过脑中的幻影和捐赠登记表上的记录找到一个名叫凯文（Jamie Harrold 饰）的男子，从对方的言语中，泰瑞隐隐感到捐赠过程中似乎存在着不可告人的秘密。
