2014年中阿合作论坛成立十周年，中国中东学界均认为通过出版本英文论文集回顾十年来中国与中东国家关系的发展，阐释中国中东外交理念和思路。孙德刚著的《构建新丝绸之路--21世纪的中国与中东关系研究(英文版)》共15篇论文，在中国应对中东剧变的危机管理、中国与中东国家的政治与安全关系、中国与中东国家的能源和经贸关系、中国与中东国家的文化关系四个方面展开论述，以期在国际上发出中国声音，扩大中国中东学者在国际上的影响力，建立中国中东研究的话语体系。
