　　故事发生在美国马里兰州的巴尔的摩，西尔维娅（崔茜·尤玛 Tracey Ullman 饰）和丈夫沃恩（克里斯·艾塞克 Chris Isaak 饰）结婚多年，两人共同经营着一间便利店。每一天，西尔维娅都要亲手打理店里的上上下下，除此之外还要操心叛逆的女儿卡普莱斯（塞尔玛·布莱尔 Selma Blair 饰），繁琐的生活让西尔维娅早已经精疲力尽，没有闲心来维系和丈夫之间的关系。
