◎简 介
刚毕业的医学院学生保本（加山雄三 Yuzo Kayama 饰），在父亲的介绍下，来到穷乡僻壤的小石川诊所实习。他的老师是一位被称作红胡子（三船敏郎 Toshiro Mifune 饰）的古怪医师。起初，向往长崎的保本对这个贫民窟厌恶之极，并迁怒于红胡子，觉得自己受骗上当，无用武之地。
