安妮（萝丝·拜恩 Rose Byrne 饰）和男友邓肯（克里斯·奥多德 Chris O'Dowd 饰）交往多年，两人之间的感情一直十分的要好。邓肯是一名音乐发烧友，尤其喜欢一位名叫塔克（伊桑·霍克 Ethan Hawke 饰）的歌手。让邓肯没有想到的是，有一天，塔克竟然给他寄了一盘名为《赤裸朱丽叶》的音乐小样。邓肯非常喜欢这份小样，但安妮却觉得这简直就如同噪音一样难听。
安妮偷偷的在网上将自己对这首歌的真实评价写了下来，没想到她的恶评吸引了塔克的注意，塔克竟然给她写了一封信，就这样，两个人通过书信一来二去的开始了交流，随着时间的推移，两人之间的距离在不知不觉之中渐渐靠近。
